ABOUT FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The Fulbright scholarship program for Foreign students was targeted at sustaining and maintaining international relations between other countries and US through students exchange. This plan has brought about the promoting of bilateral relations through which both the government and citizens of other countries work with the U.S. to have joint priorities and narrow the program to meet equal needs.

The Fulbright scholarship program for foreign students was proposed by Senator J. William Fulbright in 1945.. This was because of what wars and political struggles have caused. Thus, the Fulbright scholarship program also has a focus on promoting and engaging partnerships with other countries. For the scholarship to maintain its course, a board which constitutes of 12 persons instituted by the leadership of the United States to collaborate with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Public Affairs Section of U.S. Embassies Abroad, the bi-national Fulbright Commissions and Foundations set out to oversee the administration of the program.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) under policy guidelines collaborates with bi-national Fulbright Commissions and Public Affairs Sections of U.S. Embassies Abroad. The State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has the responsibility of preparing a budget request to the Congress who decides on the allocation of funds to partnering countries. The number of grants available for the student’s program is dependent on the availability of federally-appropriated funds.
